THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Process Technician will contribute to successful operations by monitoring, operating, adjusting and maintaining Upgrading Operations areas at the Horizon Oil Sands. We are looking for Process Technicians in different areas of our Upgrading group and each area provides the opportunity to work with different types of equipment: • Secondary Upgrading: o Process wash water system o Recycle gas compressor - dry gas seals, lube oil systems o H2S strippers o Naphtha stabilizers o Stripper columns o Cooling/inhibited water exchangers o Reciprocating compressors o Centrifugal pumps o Steam methane reformer o High temperature, high pressure reactors o Chemical reactions o Natural gas fired heaters o Separators/Overhead Receivers o High pressure steam drums, BFW circulation pumps • Sulphur Recovery Plant: o Amine scrubbing system o Diethanolamine (DEA) gas treating unit o Modified claus sulphur recovery units (2 trains at 450 tonnes/day) o SCOT tail gas treating unit using methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) o Sour water unit o Sulphur degassing unit • Coker Operations: o Diluent recovery unit o Delayed coking unit o Gas recovery unit and a vacuum distillation unit
HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
• Participate in process start-ups, shut-downs and isolations
• Prepare process units and equipment for routine maintenance • Sample products, perform tests, record data and maintain a log of process conditions, changes and upsets • Learn and implement standard operating procedures • Apply Lock Out and Tag Out procedures contributing to a safe plant • Issue permits following corporate industry and operations standards • Generate computer based work orders • Mentor and train peers through the qualification process • Participate in safety programs and maintain a safe work environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 3+ years of industry experience with college/technical diploma or equivalent • 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate required; 3rd Class is preferred • Familiarity with and understanding of working in a refinery, petro-chemical, sour gas plant or oil sands environment
